New SHORT TERM, LONG TERM

• Pleasant temperatures for Halloween evening and Trick or Treating.
• Warm temperatures and rain free conditions Sunday and Monday before a cold front moves through Tuesday possibly bringing a line of showers and storms to most areas.
• A drier airmass arrives mid to late next week behind front with cooler mornings and mild, but pleasant afternoons.

After a foggy start to the day, clouds will be tough to break today as light surface flow out of the east will likely keep clouds in place. Temperatures will still warm into the 70s for most with a few spots touching the lower 80s this afternoon with perhaps a few peaks of sunshine before the sun sets. It is looking like a nearly perfect evening to Trick or Treat with light winds, comfortable temperatures, and dry conditions.

On Sunday, some patchy fog and perhaps some locally dense fog will be possible again, particularly over the Hill Country. Weak mid-level shortwave ridging will arrive on Sunday, but clouds will still be stubborn to break. Despite the clouds, temperatures will be slightly warmer under mid-level ridging, climbing into the upper 70s to mid-80s. Mostly mid to upper level clouds will be the concern, but low clouds may be slow to break out west, keeping temperatures slightly cooler along the Rio Grande and in the Edwards Plateau.

Monday will be yet another warmer day as clouds thin out further and southerly flow ramps up ahead of our next cold front scheduled to arrive early Tuesday morning. Ahead of this front, temperatures will warm into the 80s for most locations outside of the Edwards Plateau and western Hill Country. Instability will build ahead of the approaching front, but the timing of the front through the overnight into early morning hours Tuesday will probably limit the severe threat. Nevertheless, SPC has introduced a Day 3 Marginal (Level 1 of 5) for severe storms over western portions of our area. After the line of rain and thunderstorms moves through, we expect cooler and drier weather for the remainder of the week. Cool, crip, comfortable mornings in the 40s and 50s along with afternoons in the 70s can be expected. Enjoy!

CIGs areawide will continue to gradually lift this afternoon to VFR CIGs or SCT cover. Opted to remove low CIGs tonight for KAUS/KSAT/KSSF due to models trending to clearer skies. Hi-res models show low chances (<30%) of low VSBYs, but overall conditions appear favorable for low VSBY development near KAUS/KSAT around 12Z as demonstrated in statistical aids. MVFR/IFR CIGs are forecast for KDRT tonight where cloud cover is more likely. Winds throughout the next 30 hours remain light and below 5 kt for the next 24 hours for most with the exception of KDRT after 09Z.
